Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA

Internship at MHA gave me the opportunity to apply what I learned in the classroom

Before the Mental Health Association I had an internship at a different location. The previous location was not working out for me and MHA took me in. At MHA I got the chance to learn a lot about the mental health population because I never worked with this population before. MHA also gave me the opportunity to go out in the community and learn about other services that are provided in Erie. At MHA I got the chance to run a group. Running the group gave me the chance to apply what I learned in the classroom. I also got the opportunity to work with different consumers.

One thing that I really enjoyed while being at MHA was listening to the member’s personal stories and growing a connection with them. Each consumer has a different story and they have a different path to recovery. They are all unique in their own ways. At MHA the staff and the consumers are trying to show that mental illness does not define who a person is.

MHA taught me a lot in a short period of time and I have grown a lot as a person. I want to thank all the staff at MHA, but especially thank Rita Wheeler for all your supervision. I would recommend MHA to any future interns because this organization gives you the opportunity to grow as person and the opportunity to learn a lot of new things.

Thank you

Sincerely,
