A poem written by Michael J. Rietscha
In the dark corner of the bathroom is where I sit, with the door shut and the lights off.
This is where I hide - to keep the madness of the world away from me.
I sit with my knees drawn up to my chest.
All of the screaming that is on the other side of the door is drawn away by the sweet floral scent of the incense burning.
The smoke of the incense covers the room in a magical thick mist. The only light in the dark room is the red fire tip from the long, slender stick of incense, which burns on the bathroom sink.
I hide from the madness of the world,
From the madness of my life,
From the madness in my head.
