‘Mineshaft’ is a collage of photographs by Nancy Cranston at the Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA.
Nancy duplicated a single black and white photograph. The images were laid adjacent to each other to form an intricate composition of symmetrical geometric patterns.
These patterns create a focal point in the center. This center of interest advances the illusion of three dimensions.
Nancy has effectively arranged these geometric patterns to generate an aerial perspective of descending depth with the sides of the pattern nearly meeting at the bottom of this 'mineshaft'.
Nancy has exhibited an ability to create three dimensional perception from two dimensional art.
