A colored pencil drawing of Dr. Martin Luther King by Daniel Toney

Creations Accessible Art Gallery at the Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA

This colored pencil drawing of Dr.M.L.King is from a photograph of a bust of M.L.King with an American flag as a background.

Dr. King is in a business suit with a white shirt and dark necktie.

The subject looks past the viewer with a quite intensity. His eyes are alert but without emotion. Lips are closed and do not suggest the mood. The subject bears the mustache that Dr. King had during his later lifetime.

This painting does little to suggest the place in history that is allotted this important individual.

The Art Class is lead by Portrait Artist, Daniel Toney. A recent session was held during 2004, on the premises of the Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA, 1101 Peach Street, Erie, PA. The objects were painted using ordinary props. The Art Class was highlighted by ‘Art Night’.

Art Night was organized jointly by Daniel Toney, Portrait Artist, and Shawn Tubbs. Shawn was then an intern completing graduate studies in 'Art Therapy' and is now in private practice.

The classroom with props can be seen here.
