National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

For people who are affected by substance use disorders, encouragement and support may be the motivation they need to seek treatment. The goal of the 20th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month is to bring people with substance use disorders, together with their families and treatment providers to share stories and empower others to take the necessary steps toward recovery.

Recovery Month Takes place every September and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Subsance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). his year's Recovery Month theme is "Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Learn Together We Heal".

Build A Stronger, Healthier Community, was celebrated in Erie, PA during September, 2006. Saving Lives, Saving Dollars was celebrated during September 2007. Join the Voices of Recovery: Real People Real Recovery was celebrated during September 2008 and we will be celebrating Join the Voices of Recovery: Together We Learn Together We Heal" this September. We are a proud sponsor of this annual local celebration.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment; the Office of National Drug Control Policy; and the Erie County Department of Health, the Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA, invite all residents of greater Erie to participate in National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

The 20th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month (Recovery Month) in September 2009, recognizes the collective effort that goes into achieving recovery from substance use disorders. From health care professionals who proactively recognize and treat these disorders, to employers and insurers who provide affordable treatment options, to community and family members who offer acceptance and encouragement, meaningful recovery often involves a group of caring individuals who support the recovery of both the person experiencing dependence or addiction and the person's family members, who also are affected.

I have had the pleasure on the above date to meet organizations throughout the Erie area who's compassion to serve and aid those of us who are in need of various things which could give one at least a chance at life.

While being a member of M.H.A., the professional staff I've encountered has gave me an outlook on avenues which has embarked me on a new direction!

This event has made a true statement to mankind, for I and many who participated in said gathering benifited well!!

I thank those who gave me the opportunity to be a part of a new start.

I was invited to the meeting at The Church by on of MHA team members and was delighted to be a part of many of the testimonials that went forth. As a volunteer of MHA and the community of Erie, Pa I'm always inspiring and encouraging others to become better as a person, in our homes, churches, neighborhoods, communities - the world!

We learn so much more from each other when we give one another the tools to build a "Healthy House" ourselves!. In the eyes of others we see who we are the more, or the less depending upon how we serve and see ourselves.

Ms. Mary M.

I thought the experience at the Covenant was one that will be remembered for a long time. The speakers were good and the prizes that they gave were good because I won one.

The turn out was excellent.

What a roomful of hope. I left a changed person as I'm sure many others had. Such inspiration, hope and messages of freedom.

I suggest future events like this be held nationally.
