The Association was formed 10 years ago using a few
small rooms in the basement of 9th and State Streets,
in Erie, Pennsylvania. The original purpose was to
create an atmosphere of pleasant social interaction for
persons living with mental illness. This drop in center
was organized as the Erie County Coalition of
Mental Health Consumers. Now the Mental
Health Association of Northwestern
Pennsylvania, we own, and occupy the beautiful
building you see in this home page.
We are a proud affiliate of the National Mental Health
Association.
Our focus has expanded to include activities and
programs, which compliment the drop in center. Numerous
peer led self help groups as well as structured
activities are offered to all consumers, at
little or no charge.
Major funding for our programs comes from the
Office of Mental Health/Mental
Retardation of Erie County, Pennsylvania.
Additionally, the Consumer/Family Satisfaction
Team continually monitors the mental health services
consumers receive. Their goal is to insure that
all available services are being accessed by mental health
consumers and that services received are satisfactory, and provided in a
timely manner. Please see the Consumer/Family Satisfaction Team page to
complete a Consumer Satisfaction Survey and to
realize in more detail, the effort we make to serve
and protect mental health consumers.
